The Feat Has Been Accomplished Six Times In Tournament History

The BNP Paribas Open, the largest ATP World Tour and WTA combined two-week event in the world to be held March 5-18 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, will award a $1 million bonus to any player, male or female, who captures both the singles and doubles titles at the 2018 event.

The feat has only been accomplished six times in tournament history – Roscoe Tanner in 1978, (w/Raymond Moore), Boris Becker in 1988 (w/Guy Forget), Jim Courier in 1991 (w/Javier Sanchez), Lindsay Davenport in 1997 (w/Natasha Zvereva) and 2000 (w/Corina Morariu), and Vera Zvonareva in 2009 (w/Victoria Azarenka).

“We want to encourage more of the top singles players to play doubles at the BNP Paribas Open, and therefore are offering a bonus of $1 million in 2018 as a significant incentive,” said Haas. “While we have traditionally had great participation by singles players competing in doubles, we know how much our fans love to watch doubles at our tournament, and we want to give them the best possible doubles fields over the fortnight.”

Currently there are 27 players (15 men, 12 women) who are entered in both the singles and doubles competitions in Indian Wells. On the men’s side ten additional teams (eight direct acceptance, two wild cards) will be added next week, and for the women nine additional teams (six direct acceptance, three wild cards) will be added to the field. The doubles draw for the women will be announced on Tuesday, March 6, and Wednesday, March 7 for the men. The women’s doubles competition will begin on Wednesday, March 7, and on Friday, March 9 for the men.

Prize money for both the men’s and women’s singles champion at the 2018 event will be $1,340,860.
