Tie Break Tens, the new quick-fire, short-form tennis competition, is excited to announce that Daniela Hantuchová and Sorana Cirstea will compete at its inaugural United States tournament at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City on Monday, March 5, 2018. They join a dynamic line-up, including Serena and Venus Williams, Elina Svitolina, CoCo Vandeweghe and Marion Bartoli, with just one contender yet to be unveiled.

Tie Break Tens tournaments are held over one day and involve eight players competing in a knock-out format, with each match consisting of a super tie-break to ten points. Following successful tournaments in London, Vienna, Madrid and Melbourne, the Tie Break Tens all-women event will feature the tour’s top players competing for the $250,000 winner’s prize and the opportunity to raise a trophy at the iconic venue.

Slovakian tennis star Daniela Hantuchová has won seven WTA tournaments, reaching a career high ranking of five in 2003 before retiring in 2017. Her Grand Slam achievements include reaching the quarter finals of Wimbledon and the US Open in 2002, and the semi-finals of the Australian Open in 2008. Daniela has also had a successful doubles career, and is only the fifth female player to have won all four doubles Grand Slams.

“I’m really excited to step back onto the court to join the action at Tie Break Tens,” Daniela said. “It’s a fast-paced tournament where anything can happen and I can’t wait to see who I will be drawn against. The crowds seem to love it and I know the fans at MSG will have a great.”

Sorana Cirstea, a WTA singles title holder from Romania, is currently ranked No. 38 in the world and achieved a career high ranking of 21 in August 2013. An accomplished doubles player, she has also won four WTA doubles titles.

“I’m thrilled to take part in my first Tie Break Tens tournament in one of my favorite cities,” Sorana said. “It’s a really exciting format where anything can happen, and I’m sure the atmosphere in Madison Square Garden will be incredible!”

“We’re delighted to welcome Daniela and Sorana to our first ever Tie Break Tens tournament in the U.S., which is set to be one of our most exciting competitions to date,” Felicity Barnard said. “The fast-paced format makes for a thrilling evening of sporting entertainment, whether you’re a long-time tennis supporter or new to the sport. With such a great line-up of elite players, it will be a brilliant introduction to Tie Break Tens for American fans.”
