Daniil Medvedev made history as the first man to defeat the world’s top three–Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem–in capturing the ATP World Tour Finals championship.
“Daniil really deserved it, amazing match,” Dominic Thiem said after the ATP Finals title match. “I hope that we’ll have many great matches to come.”
A year after going winless in his ATP Finals debut, Daniil Medvedev went undefeated extending his winning streak to 10 matches in collecting the ATP Finals championship.
“What a match, one of maybe my best victories against an amazing player, Dominic,” said Daniil Medvedev after rallying past Dominic Thiem 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-4 in the ATP Finals title match.
“Of course I’m disappointed, but at the same time I’m also proud of the performance all week, honestly,” said Dominic Thiem.
Daniil Medvedev ripped 12 aces beating Dominic Thiem for the second time in five meetings 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-4.
Dominic Thiem fought off eight of nine break points bowing in the ATP Finals championship match for the second straight year.
Daniil Medvedev is the second Russian in the tournament’s 50-year history to capture the ATP Finals joining 2009 champion Nikolay Davydenko.
Daniil Medvedev posted a perfect 10-0 record in November with seven of the 10 wins coming vs. Top 10 opponents.
Daniil Medvedev is the sixth different ATP World Tour Finals champion over the past six years.
