Daniil Medvedev broke serve three times in a row sweeping world No. 1 Novak Djokovic 6-3, 6-3 at the Nitto ATP Finals in London.
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic earned just one break point in his straight-sets loss to Daniil Medvedev at the Nitto ATP Finals.
Daniil Medvedev scored his fourth win in six matches vs. Top 10 opponents this season.
After going winless in the Nitto ATP Finals last year, Daniil Medvedev has sewn up a semifinal spot.
“Of course, I am really happy to beat him. I was serving good and playing safe enough in the most important moments. That is why I got the win,” Daniil Medvedev said after toppling top-seeded Novak Djokovic.
Novak Djokovic must defeat Alexander Zverev in his final round-robin match on Friday to qualify for the semifinals of the ATP Finals.
Alexander Zverev fired 10 aces in a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win over Diego Schwartzman at the ATP Finals in London.
“I think he deserve to win because he played better than me in important moments, but the serve was the difference today in the third set, not in the first,” said Diego Schwartzman of his loss to Alexander Zverev.
“I hope on Friday will be even better, because that’s what I need against Novak,” Alexander Zverev said after his three-set win over Diego Schwartzman.
Diego Schwartzman dropped to 0-2 in Group Tokyo of the round-robin event.
Alexander Zverev beat Diego Schwartzman for the second time in a month following his straight-sets win in the Cologne-2 final.
