Boodles – Wednesday June 26th, 2019
The ride from Central London to the Boodles Event in Stoke Park is a bit long. We tried to figure out the tube situation but once we saw that the instructions led us to a carriage at the end of the tube, we decided to order an Uber. Total 40 dollars. Splitting it amongst 4 people, it’s not bad at all.
You know once you arrive at the Boodles Event. Starting with the significant entrance and the magnificent golf course that surrounds the event.
Wonder if this year Djokovic came in a helicopter again. He was practicing on the courts early…
Denis was exciting to watch throughout the whole match versus Djokovic. He did make many errors but it might of been due to the gusty wind that seem to pick up every once in awhile. The corporate boxes sitting in front of us kept on commentating that the windy was, “very frigid”. ( It was cold but in general I would say that it was a very sunny day at the Boodles.)
For the first set, Djokovic never left the baseline. He seemed a bit sluggish but if the ball came to him, he was returning well. For the second set, Djokovic seemed to have warmed up. The best point of the whole match was in the second set playing for the second point – Djokovic longed and rolled to return after a great rally where Djokovic came out victorious. 7-6, 6-4
Ultimately Denis Shapovalov, defeated Djokovic in two sets. According to Djokovic, “Denis is one of the leaders of the next generation.”
Before the winner Denis Shapovalov exited the court jokingly contemplating if he was going to win any ATP points for defeating Djokovic – sorry but the answer is no.
Heading out for a quick Pimms with fruit before Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Karen Khachanov.
