I think it is just mean to dress these great tennis giants in green!

Kim in FILA Green
Murray in Adidas Green Accents
Verdasco in Adidas Green

I think it is just mean to dress these great tennis giants in green!
These sponsors should consider "wearable" colors for these tennis stars. Yes, the Australian Open is the Happy Slam and the fun intense colors invite attention.
Many of the players don't care what they wear—it is the least of their worries but it is huge for marketing these apparel lines.
While I love the yellows, the hot pinks, and all the warm brights the other players are wearing- the grass green is not flattering to anyone’s skin color.
Verdasco's deeper complexion allows him to be the most attractive in this shade of green but put him in a HOT color- he will sizzle even more!
Even though Andy has green accents it is hard to look at him in this goofy color. He needs to be wearing a power color. He is far from a Ninja Turtle.
Kimmie has always looked great in the FILA navys and a change up is always fun- but Kelly green is not her color.
If tones of green are necessary, I would suggest more of the neon kiwi green or slide over to new interpretations of army or olive green.
Take it from Kermit- it's hard to be green!

While Uniqlo is NOT new in the fashion world it is exciting to see it on the court! Uniqlo has been in business since 1984 and is a huge Japanese retail success. They are owned by Fast Retailing and have become a world renowned brand- currently 777 stores throughout Japan, and more throughout China, Korea and Europe. Tadashi Yanai is the founder and is said to be the Japanese version of Warren Buffet. He has created a global business that is rivaling the H&M’s, The Gap’s, and Zara’s of the world. In 2003, he wrote a book titled, “One Win, Nine Losses”. It tells of his firm belief that you can become successful by learning from your mistakes. Sounds like he knows the patience and wisdom of mastering the game of tennis, too.

In the U.S., Uniqlo has a 37,000 foot retail store in the groovy Soho neighborhood of NYC (the only one in the U.S.). It is full of terrific basics offered in as many as 80 colors stacked precisely to the ceiling alongside trend-setting styles for the urban geeks and sophisticates alike.

I am sure that Kei Nishikori is wearing the ever- comfortable “Heattech” product that Uniqlo has designed and sold heap loads of. It is the company’s biggest seller. Their Heattech innovation was developed by Toray Industries using milk proteins for softness and building in air pockets with star-shaped fabric strands to retain warmth. Having been hooked on Heattech for quite some time, I was recently in the NYC store and any style in this fabric is virtually sold out until the Fall 2011season. It is a light weight textile perfect for any weather condition. The stores DO offer at least 20 vivid colors in most Heattech styles. Consequently great for the tennis court! Also any product at Uniqlo is amazingly easy on the pocketbook. The Heattech line is approximately $10.50 per piece in the stores. You can never walk in the store and come out with one item. Yanai calls it “cheap yet chic” clothing. It is designed for comfort and longevity.

I hope to see more of Kei and his great brand of clothing on the courts through more rounds of play! We will also be happy to visit the new location of Uniqlo on Fifth Ave in NYC and a new 20,000 foot location in Paris, France in the very near future!

Dressed in a gray and coral strappy "sun" dress, Maria Sharapova looks sizzling "hot" for her debut match today! Her style is on target for the fashion colors of the season- her pop of coral is neon bright and perfect for an Australian approach - happy and full of energy. The light gray adds a nice contrast and keeps it sophisticated. The design is clean and unforced. The dress shapes her gorgeously fit body perfectly.

Her game plan today seems to correspond. So far in this predictable match she is a standout, playing with great ease and striking the ball with some strong pop! With her intense level of confidence, positive energy and forceful game she will continue to win in style!

Today's US Open crowd had two fashion must-haves - something to cover their heads and protect their eyes!

I had the privilege of sitting amongst the tennis greats and USTA royalty In the President's Box today, which is like going to tennis heaven. You are invited to a delicious formal gourmet meal, you mingle with the past tennis greats and the top USTA executives and enjoy clever stories about their glamorous lives in the game.

For an added treat they hand out Kaminsky straw hats for the women and white fedoras trimmed with a black band for the gentlemen. It is a great tradition! The hats in this box behind the potted red flowers create a picture of dignity and sophistication.
While these hats dress up the crowd on this windy day they also prove to be extremely functional! It is incredibly windy and the chill is in the air. Rather than have your hair lashing about, it is now held tight under the best looking chapeux around.

Walking around the campus of this great event one also finds many a tennis cap and visor to buy. The 'RF' hats to wear in support of Roger or the Bulls horn insignia for Rafa fans.

The USTA logo visors are a perfect gift! Or the costly, as are the Ralph Lauren caps. The cool and hip crowd had their ski caps and Elmer Fudd hunting hats on, all to warm the ears on what was a surprisingly cool day in Queen's.
The sexy women ever-so concerned for their skin and eyes had the St. Tropez floppy brimmed hats on shading their Lady Gaga eyewear. Whether to keep warm, to shade eyes or just to look great, there were plenty of good reasons for caps, shades and visors today!

Venus is top of the town in her self-designed, NY-inspired dress that is dazzling the crowd. Wozniacki is sophisticated and so stylish in Stella McCarthy for adidas's laser cut dress. Sharapova is smashingly beautiful in her Nike tuxedo-collared dress or her baby blue, fitted day dress with black accents.

The women dominating center court have really stepped up the style at the US Open this year! They have planned their wardrobes like any celebrated diva and it is a welcome change! Using tennis as their "fashion" platform adds pizzazz to the show. Even Fila has become more creative for Kim Clijsters's attire.

Venus tells us she has a new dress for each match she plays. I say, "Keep winning Venus - we want to see all seven of them".

Here at 10sballs.com, we and all of the stars’ fans know they are beautiful and talented. It is also great to see their individual fashion sense and their sponsors becoming more fashion conscious!

Nothing like winning in style!

Here in Los Angeles at the Farmers Classic, Xavier Malisse is handsomely outfitted in the brand Lotto from top to bottom but wait- what does that patch say on his right sleeve?

10sballs.com??

What is that all about?

Answer: When a tennis player can - he or she can pick up additional income by sticking on a patch or two that advertises for a particular company.

Xavier's patch happens to be helping this website -10sballs.com and we can't be more grateful!

The players know if their clothing contract allows them to attach these patches or not. They are most likely not wearing Nike. You may see a Guinot patch in France or Geico patch at Wimbledon or other such patches. It is a small advertising deal but on the right player with moderate to high visibility it does the job.

In this case- it is money well spent!

Thanks Xavier!

The tradition of wearing White at Wimbledon is because back in the 1800’s white was a sign of authority as well as being a protective color – it reflects the sun and keeps the body from getting to warm. This practicality and the formality of royalty wearing white has been adapted by many tennis clubs and memberships throughout the world.

What colors do you wear on the court?

While our tennis teams wear certain colors to show unity the pros wear colors their sponsors pick for them and the top tier players have the opportunity to choose the colors and design what they will wear. Let’s look at a few of the top players and see how their games relate to their choice of colors to wear….

Rafa in his dynamic, powerful punch of color calls out his “work-horse” positive attitude on the court. First it was his black or white “pirate” pants and now he always looks happy and vibrant in his color blocking of pink and yellow, or red and yellow or the combination of green and turquoise. Not only is he a young suave fashion leader but he is the Best in these Brights!

Federer’s clean neutrals with metallic accents also depict his straight-forward approach to the game with a unique touch of grace and glamour. “Simplicity and magical” are perfect adjectives for his clothing as well as for his shot-making!

Venus’ creative sense of style emanates not only in her dress but in the colors she wears! From poaching the net in Purple to bright yellow or orange- she shows us all how to “go for” our colors and stay confident with our tennis shots, too.

The bold and strong choice of colors worn by Serena shows she is extremely self – assured and fearless. She loves orange, a hot and sexy, boisterous color. Great for a woman who plays with hot determination and proud of her talents on the court.

Like these top pros. picking the colors you wear on the court can tell your opponent a lot about your personality and give a few signs about how you will play.

Much Success in the colors you choose! Think Confidence, Powerful and Creative and then Color it UP!

(1 ) A strip of frilled or closely pleated fabric used for trimming or decoration.

(2) To disturb the smoothness or regularity of, to discompose; fluster

(3) A potato chip

It seems the Ladies' draw at Wimbledon received the same fashion memo.

'Wear ruffles not ridges'! The smooth and flowing effect of the ruffle adds ease to movement, looks beautiful and offers a subtle touch of drama.

The one great fashion trend on the court is a powerful row of ruffles on the lower hem of skirts worn by several of the women players. This detail was implemented with sophistication and femininity.

Serena's is a bold, wavy row touched by the “strawberries and crème” cording.

Sharapova's was more an assymetrical tier.....As was Azarenka's.

“Kimmy” had a clean pleated trimmed skirt (on the “ridgy-side”), while newcomer Tsvetana Pironkova wore a soft, mesh ruffle on her skirt.

Zvonareva has a pleated ruffle on her K-Swiss skirt.

Whoops- there is one 'girly 'girl- Jankovic- who did have some “fluffy” ruffles.

The fashion designer herself, Venus, had rows of “eyelash” fringe finishing off the bottom of her dress- not exactly a ruffle but innovative detail!

They all wore the ruffles beautifully and played with composure….

and weren't ruffled by the experience!

Have you seen the ads? The K- Swiss campaign is really “kickin’ in style!

Mardy Fish was the first top tennis player to sign on with K-Swiss and now we can see the brand being worn by Americans Bob and Mike Bryan, Sam Querrey and the exciting Frenchman, Gael Monfils! The K-Swiss website homepage is now featuring our fellow American tennis players.

Mardy told me this about his “trend-setting”- “Tennis clothes can be so plain that it's refreshing to be able to wear a cool brand that constantly mixes things up and keeps it exciting and hip.” He says “it is neat to wear the brand as he gets complimented when he wears the brand and that it seems to appeal to the public.”

K-Swiss- a company out of Southern California – started in 1966-making a public debut at Wimbledon. They continue to be forerunners in the competitive world of athletic shoes and apparel. The pro-active publicity surge seems to be working! They made over $250 million in sales last year and the sales continue to build! The shoes are pepped up with their classic 5-stripe and “shield” detail. Their clothing is clean with spurts of fun color blocking and easy to wear coordinates.

The company prides themselves on being innovative and providing not only great quality and style on the court but also creating shoes and clothing that can be worn with comfort in a lifestyle off the court as well.

Seems Mardy and the guys are happy with helping to make K-Swiss the “It” brand…. Mardy says, “Fortunately for us, most of the brand publicity is doing our job and being on the court in front of thousands of people where they can see the K Swiss Shield”.

He is also thrilled to be part of a “fashionable” group of friends…

“ It's always cool to be able to represent something with your buddies and fellow Americans... we have been at the same events and tournaments and photo shoots together and of course being with all the guys makes it way more fun... sometimes you don't even feel like you're working!”

Mardy goes on to credit K-Swiss and their generosity – “K-Swiss has been generous to my trainer ,Christian LoCascio, who has been lucky enough to be able to wear the clothing line too and K Swiss has always been so generous with providing my family and team with their gear.

It is great to see these terrific tennis players looking so “Hip” and athletic in their “K-Swiss” at Wimbledon! Just makes you want to do some shopping! We all want the “Kool” factor!

The top players are fitted in their Wimbledon whites and ready to go today but some of the finest players are just now unpacking their new shorts, skirts and checking that every lace, snap, or hook & eye are in place. As this weeks outfit must be as tailored as a wedding dress or tux- I pose the question- what if the player is unsatisfied with what they are now putting on or worse yet- they become uncomfortable on the court? ( have you ever worn a new pair of tennis shoes to a match only to get blisters?) - the show must go on- or does it?

We all know these players get " multiples" but do they all really fit exactly to spec?

If anyone saw Gael Monfits recent wardrobe malfunction - his shorts were slipping off his skinny hips affecting every stroke he chose. His shorts were simply too big!

After a few games,he had to rush into the locker room for some old shorts he had in his bag.

What if Venus pulled out her fringed, shorter-than- short dress and the armholes were too tight- She could barely reach for her serve?

What if Sahar thought she was wearing a dress and the skirt arrived instead? What if the elasticity on Bethanies' knee socks wore out? What if K- Swiss for Mardy Fish, Sam Querrey and the Bryan Bros. turned out to be a K- miss?

Do the players, on this momentous occasion suck it up, do they call their sponsor and complain, or what is the solution here? Where are the stylists when you need them?

Lets raise our Pimms cocktails to sheer comfort for all these great players and that they are free of any wardrobe crisis'!!! Cheers to a jolly Wimbledon and wardrobe watching for all!
