SAD NEWS! Prayers for ROBERTA T. FAIG (top row, right), better known as “Bobbie,” the “keeper of the flame” for Gene Scott’s TENNIS WEEK magazine, who passed away peacefully last night in her sleep at the age of 88. Every tennis fan knows that Tennis Week was the sport’s bible and that Bobbie, an integral member of the global tennis family, worked diligently to perpetuate the magazine’s influence in the game. I recently posted Vitas Gerulaitis’s photo, who called Bobbie regularly to chat. Loyal Tennis Week staffers pictured with Bobbie at the 2006 USTA Eastern Hall of Fame dinner include –(front, l-r) Kent Oswald, the late Carole Graebner and Richard Pagliaro; (top, l-r) Chris Schott Ledes, Andre Christopher and Nancy McShea. We all hope you are resting in peace, Bobbie, and we send our sympathies to your family. Funeral arrangements are pending. (Photo: Ed Goldman)

Editors Note: Bobbie Faig was officially TENNIS WEEK’S Advertising Manager. But in reality she was its FAIRY GOD MOTHER! Definitely a second mother to Gene Scott.

Maybe she was one of the nicest people in tennis? I cherished our friendship. Our Tennis Week years were awesome. I’ll never forget back in the mid 1970s Gene had sent Bobbie and Carole to stay with me. All I could offer were bunk beds. Yes. Bobby got the top (LBS)
