Caroline Wozniacki is asking for a bit of respect from long-retired Martina Navratilova after the 55-year-old ex-player’s repeated slamming of the current top players in the women’s game

Wozniacki, who finished year-end No. 1 in 2010 and 2011, was replaced a the top as Azarenka won the Australian Open. But the Dane is shocked by criticism from Navratilova, who also slammed the perceived lack of depth at the top of the current women’s game. The player advised the part-time TV commentator to “think a little bit.”

“I would never say that when Martina was number one when there was no one playing,” said Wozniacki, 21. “Or that she was the best when no-one was playing. That would be disrespectful.”

Wozniacki added: “To be honest, I lost a little bit of respect. Because I respect what they have achieved. And I really respect what someone else (has done), I know how hard it is to reach the top level of a sport like tennis.

“But I think they (TV commentators) should respect players that are playing now as well. Because they know how hard it is. You don’t just wake up and say okay I want to win this tournament, and it just happens like this. At that point, you are like, they should just think a little bit.”

It’s really quite simple, if you want respect, win a Slam. Period.
