I’ve been putting in some serious work the past two days and boy do my legs feel it! As you can see I’ve picked up some new workout equipment; I’m especially proud of the rope and tire combo. I stopped by a sporting goods store and picked up a weight belt that I can attach the rope/tire to and drag it when I run 10yd and 20yd sprints in the grass. Then I was given the rope and tire by Ikaika Jobe’s dad who had them laying around in the shed. The green elastic band with the ankle straps is for extra hard lunges, side lunges, split step exercises, and any and all leg movements to build up my hips, gluts, quads, and hamstrings. I’m completely committed to using these items more and more each and every day to build up my leg strength and develop more speed and more stamina on the court.
I jumped in a cold pool today after my two practices and tire draggin’ sprints… As I hopped into my car my front hip gave out to cramps and I had to jump out to straighten it and chill out. Headed over to Ikaika Jobe’s house where he has a nice cold pool that I could lay in to try and relax my legs. Up next is a good long stretch, nap, and elevated feet so that the lactic acid drains out of my legs. I won’t forget the food as I will eat carbs, proteins, and green leafy veggies to build more muscle and regain lost energy. I hope you’re all putting in the work today as well! Good luck out there. Oh yeah, before I forget, train with objectives. Going out there to bash balls around in an attempt to get better is not the way to get better. If you’re hitting cross courts (as I was brainless-ly doing today), change it up and set an objective for yourself. You’ll develop more consistency and a better rhythm to your strokes if you say you want to hit 30 balls past the service line in a row, if you hit into the net you go to 0… Makes things interesting but eventually you find your focus to calm down, swing comfortably and effortlessly, and get the job done.
