Buenos Aires

Singles – First Round: (4) K Nishikori def. J Ferrero 7-5 3-6 6-2

It still seems strange that Kei Nishikori chose to play here, but obviously he got away with it. He isn’t at all likely to climb this week, though. He leaves Juan Carlos Ferrero probably still just above #50.

Singles – First Round: (6) S Wawrinka def. (WC) H Zeballos 6-3 6-4

That may get at least a little of the taste of Davis Cup out of Stanislas Wawrinka’s mouth. But it won’t count toward his ranking; he needs a final.

Singles – First Round: C Berlocq def. P Riba 6-7(5-7) 6-0 6-0

Carlos Berlocq is almost unstoppable this year, at least in first rounds. He’s getting closer and closer to the Top Forty.

Singles – First Round: V Hanescu def. P Andujar 6-3 4-6 7-6(7-4)

Pablo Andujar will probably stay Top Fifty, but this costs him the chance to be sure.

Singles – First Round: F Gonzalez (WC) def. A Montanes 7-5 1-0, retired (hip)

It’s possible that this will be the last win of Fernando Gonzalez’s career. Not how he wanted it, obviously, but at least it’s a win. It will probably leave Albert Montanes still below #50.

Singles – First Round: (WC) F Bagnis def. L Mayer 5-7 6-4 6-2

After losing both his ATP matches last year, Facundo Bagnis finally picks up a win.

Doubles – First Round: (4) Riba/Souza def. Ferrer/Gimeno-Traver 6-1 7-6(9-7)

Doubles – First Round: Marrero/Verdasco def. (WC) Delbonis/Junqueira 7-5 6-4
