During her playing days, Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario’s parents Marisa and Emilio were omnipresent throughout her many successes including three French Open titles.

Now the Barcelona bumble-bee has accused her mother and father of leaving her with virtually nothing of an estimated US$60 million fortune.

Sanchez-Vicario, who also won the 1994 US Open title has just penned a new autobiography, Arantxa, Vamos! Memoirs of a struggle, a life and a woman in which she maintains her parents controlled almost every aspect of her life, including finances.

Sanchez Vicario maintains she is again under investigation from the Spanish tax authorities. After a similar problem in the mid 1990’s she was made to pay the equivalent of $3.5 million for irregularities in payments when she maintained residence in the Pyrenees tax haven of Andorra.

The 40 year-old, who amassed prize money of $US16.9 million and is calculated to have earned a further $40m in endorsements, maintains she is estranged from both her parents and elder brothers Emilio and Javier.

“My parents made me suffer a lot,” Sanchez-Vicario said in the Spanish magazine La Otra Conica. “They left me with nothing and now I am indebted to the (tax authorities) and I will not be quiet. Today, I am without resources.”

While Emilio snr. ran the finances, mother Marisa determined all other aspects of her daughter’s life. “When I was playing my mother decided on my hair, my clothes,” said the former world no.1. “When I bought something on my own, she rarely liked it.”

Late last year Sanchez-Vicario was appointed Spain’s new Fed Cup captain and recently she attended the Australian Open in Melbourne with her second husband businessman Jose ‘Pep’ Santacana and their two children, two year-old Arantxa and four month old son Leo.

The parents were apparently opposed to the marriage because of Santacana’s business history. As yet they have made no reported comment on their daughter’s allegations.
