Singles – Final: (3) M Youzhny def. L Lacko 6-2 6-3

Lukas Lacko had been playing brilliantly all week, but this time, it seemed as if the nerves caught up with him. It was his first final, after all. He was broken three times, and he never even reached break point on Mikhail Youzhny’s serve. It took a little more than an hour, but frankly, it seemed faster.

Lacko still earns a double breakthrough — not only his first final but, it appears, a ranking around #65.

Mikhail Youzhny doesn’t reach a career high — but he does break a streak of a year and a half without a title. His ranking has been falling steadily lately, and he will finally turn that around. #39 coming in, he will rise to about #32.

Doubles – Final: Baghdatis/Youzhny def. Dodig/Pavic (WC) 6-2 6-2

When Mikhail Youzhny is on, he is really on. Exactly two hours on the court and he picked up two titles!

It hadn’t been quite as long a wait for him in doubles as in singles; last year, he won Dubai with Stakhovsky. For a guy we tend to think of as a singles player, his doubles record is pretty impressive: This is his ninth title (he has won nine of his twelve finals), and he has won at least one title every year since 2007. A nice guy to have on a Davis Cup team, when you think about it.

For Marcos Baghdatis, this is a milestone: His first doubles title. He hasn’t been off to a great start this year. This will probably help.
