Singles – Second Round: (2) J Chela def. H Zeballos 6-4 7-6(7-2)

If anything, this should have been over sooner. Juan Ignacio Chela was really punishing Horacio Zeballos’s second serve, but somehow that didn’t translate into a lot of breaks. He finally got his chance in the tiebreak. So far, Chela hasn’t earned any points. But any additional wins will count.

Singles – Second Round: F Delbonis (Q) def. (3) T Bellucci 6-2 7-5

This should have been a wide-open chance for Thomaz Bellucci to climb — a weak field, and he had room to add points. Instead, he’ll end up no better than #37. And this against a guy who had only one previous ATP quarterfinal!

Singles – Second Round: (7) C Berlocq def. D Junqueira (Q) 6-1 6-0

Carlos Berlocq is definitely off to a better start this year than last…. And he won’t have to face Bellucci next, so he has an open route to the semifinal.

Singles – Second Round: J Souza def. F Gonzalez (WC) 6-3 7-6(8-6)

As with Paul-Henri Mathieu at Montpellier, the second match was the tough one for Fernando Gonzalez. Still, he played a fairly strong match, which is encouraging. Joao Souza is now very close to the Top Hundred.

Doubles – First Round: (1) Sa/Soares def. Andreev/Chardy 5-7 6-3 10-8 (Match TB)

Their name may sound like someone sneezing, but history implies that Sa/Soares could be a pretty good clay team.

Doubles – First Round: Giraldo/M Gonzalez def. Dutra Silva/Junqueira 7-6(9-7) 6-2

Doubles – Quarterfinal: Gil/Gimeno-Traver def. (3) Marrero/Riba 6-7(5-7) 6-4 10-8 (Match TB)

Doubles – Quarterfinal: (4) Andujar/Berlocq def. Bellucci/Melo 6-4 7-6(9-7)
