Singles – Second Round: (1) T Berdych def. F Serra (Q) 6-0 6-2

Tomas Berdych needs a title to improve his point total, and can’t rise in the rankings no matter what, so a nice easy win is just what he wanted!

Singles – Second Round: (3) G Monfils def. M Russell 6-3 6-3

A nice event for Frenchmen — there are five of them in the quarterfinal. But Gael Monfils needs a title to earn any points.

Singles – Second Round: N Mahut def. (6) F Mayer 7-6(7-3) 6-3

Florian Mayer was hurting in January, and we have to suspect that that influenced this result — maybe Mayer is healthy, but he is surely rusty. He loses his chance to reach the Top Twenty.

Singles – Second Round: (8) J Nieminen def. P Mathieu 7-6(7-4) 6-1

After all his time away, little wonder if Paul-Henri Mathieu eventually ran out of gas. We’d still consider this a promising return to action. For Jarkko Nieminen, the win takes him to around #47.

Doubles – Quarterfinal: Mahut/Roger-Vasselin def. (1) Fleming/Hutchins 7-5 7-5

A tough place for doubles seeds — note that only one team made the semifinal….

Doubles – Quarterfinal: (3) Hanley/J Murray def. de Schepper/F Martin 7-6(8-6) 6-2

Doubles – Quarterfinal: Huey/Skupski def. Rochus/Zelenay 6-3 6-3

Doubles – Quarterfinal: Brown/Zovko def. Davydenko/Kunitsyn 6-3 7-5
