Azarenka Reveals Result of Concussion at US Open
The 21 year-old Belarusian who is currently ranked 11 in the world, hurt her head after stumbling from a running machine in the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center gym as she warmed up for her second round match against Gisela Dulko.
On one of the hottest days of the tournament, Azarenka fell to the cement of Flushing Meadow’s Grandstand Court as she trailed 5-1 to the Argentine.
“There were some things I had to recover from and it took a while,” said Azarenka who has finally returned to action in this week’s Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo. “It wasn’t as easy as I thought, but I’m happy to be back on court now.”
Azarenka has teamed up in a new doubles partnership with former world no.1 Dinara Safina and the pair proved their durability by winning an extended first round encounter against Timea Bacsinszky and Roberta Vinci, coming out 11-9 in the final set.
Looking back to New York, Azarenka admitted: Well obviously I’m feeling better than I was there. “
