It seems the Ladies’ draw at Wimbledon received the same fashion memo.
‘Wear ruffles not ridges’! The smooth and flowing effect of the ruffle adds ease to movement, looks beautiful and offers a subtle touch of drama.
The one great fashion trend on the court is a powerful row of ruffles on the lower hem of skirts worn by several of the women players. This detail was implemented with sophistication and femininity.
Serena’s is a bold, wavy row touched by the “strawberries and crème” cording.
Sharapova’s was more an assymetrical tier…..As was Azarenka’s.
“Kimmy” had a clean pleated trimmed skirt (on the “ridgy-side”), while newcomer Tsvetana Pironkova wore a soft, mesh ruffle on her skirt.
Zvonareva has a pleated ruffle on her K-Swiss skirt.
Whoops- there is one ‘girly ‘girl- Jankovic- who did have some “fluffy” ruffles.
The fashion designer herself, Venus, had rows of “eyelash” fringe finishing off the bottom of her dress- not exactly a ruffle but innovative detail!
They all wore the ruffles beautifully and played with composure….
and weren’t ruffled by the experience!
