Ana Ivanovic has turned to a familiar coaching face in an effort to jump-start her season.
The former World No. 1 announced today she is working with Heinz Gunthardt, who formerly coached Steffi Graf.
Gunthardt will make his debut as Ivanovic’s coach at the BNP Paribas Showdown in Madison Square Garden on Monday, March 1st. Ivanovic, who replaced Serena Williams in the four-player exhibition event, will play Kim Clijsters next Monday night.
Gunthardt helped Graf win 12 majors during their time together and is known for his emphasis on technique and footwork.
The new partnership halts Ivanovic’s participation in the adidas development program. She had been working with Sven Groeneveld on a part-time basis. Groeneveld, who works with several adidas-sponsored players as part of its developmental program, guided Ivanovic to the World No. 1 ranking and the 2008 Roland Garros title.
The 22-year-old Serbian is currently ranked No. 23. She has not won a tournament title since the 2008 Indian Wells. Ivanovic, who opened the season reaching the Brisbane semifinals, lost to Gisela Dulko in the second round of last month’s Australian Open.
